Jean-Pierre Romero, mayor of Port-Vendres, France, was honored on July 4 with the distinguished honor, Commandeur de l’Ordre de Lafayette. The medal was presented by M. L’Ambassadeur International de l’Order Lafayette.

Speakers recalled Port-Vendres’ links to America and the village of Yorktown, Va., Lafayette’s role in the deciding battles of the American Revolutionary War, the commemorative panel on the Port-Vendres Obelisk honoring American Independence, and the visits of l’Hermione, an exact replica of the French frigate that carried the Marquis de Lafayette to America in 1780 replica ship, in Yorktown in 2015 and in Port-Vendres in 2018.

Mayor Romero is a staunch supporter of the sister city relationship between Port-Vendres and Yorktown.

Congratulations to Mayor Romero from Yorktown friends!
